1966 Shop Mustang "Adult-a-stang" Infinity Project
Posted by Corine Jackson on
The "Adult-a-stang" has under went many transplants its currently on its 3rd engine. The Mustang started out as a "babystang" 170cc original straight six. Not long after it was purchased a 200cc 6cyl upgrade happened in 1999, new slick valve covers, headers, fresh paint wheels and camero style duel exhaust.
The Mustang grew up to a lumpy cam-ed 289 that was installed from a '65 falcon I purchased for $600 in 2002 as a young adult. This swap included the donor falcon running gear which was an AOD from an 80 ish ford and a 8" stock rear axle. The stock drive line was used but shortened to account for the longer tail of the AOD. Along with the falcon running gear swap was a front Granada disc brake conversion, front suspension and steering including 620 coil springs, all new x pipe duel 2.5" exhaust with flow masters and headers, quick shift kit, aluminum intake ,BG demon 650 carb, pertronix HEI distributor and another set of wheels this time 17" torque thrust II. (FYI most of the work done on the stang is before digital pics, sorry for the poor quality)
The current engine the "Yayo" block is on loan from jp-99 . The engine is a '68 302 that was running and installed in his latest purchase a '62 ford comet.Once removed the yayo block was spruced up , valve seals, gaskets ,timing chain some bolt on goodies and lots of clean up. I started this current engine replacement project With a budget of $300 , I plan to document as I go with pictures, part numbers and any useful information along the way.
We have a few "Adult-a-stang" upgrades that will be happening in the near future, fun stuff like a new limited slip axle swap from a 91 ford ranger , front shock tower beef up ,like the comet and indexing control arms for proper front suspension geometry. Along with the performance upgrades on the "Adult-a-stang" there are a couple cosmetic issues that will get some attention like door panels and a front valance.
